Convention 2007

Program: Council of Practical Nurse Educators (COPNE) WORKSHOP

Preface:  For more than a year, NAPNES Council of Practical Nurse Educators, consultants, Board of Directors, executive staff and key stakeholders have been working to develop several sets of national standards.  It has been more than 11 years since the national accrediting body for LP/VN programs has updated their standards.  Additionally, the standards were allowed to go out of print and are currently unavailable.  NAPNES Board of Directors and COPNE put all stakeholders on notice that moving forward, NAPNES would once again assume the responsibility for development of national PN Education standards, curricula standards, and standards for PN Educators.

The 2007 COPNE Workshop will be one of the most important meetings and workshops for PN Educators in many years.  This program was presented in June 2006 in Newport News, VA.  More than 75 educators from nine states attended with extremely positive feedback.

This very interactive workshop will produce historic outcomes for Practical Nursing Education and Educators for years to come.  Participants will be presented with information from one of the most extensive nursing education research projects ever conducted.  Then the day will build on that information with the production of three to four sets of national standards.  Attendees will participate in the development of those standards during small group break-out sessions and a round-table meeting.  The final standards will be presented to NAPNES Board of Directors for recommendation to approve before the entire NAPNES membership body.

Lunch is included for participants of this full-day workshop.

Scheduled for 6.5 contact hours (Education)
