WHAT IS NAPNES?
The National Association for Practical Nurse Education
and Service, Inc. (NAPNES) is the national nonprofit
organization dedicated to improving the quality, education,
and recognition of nursing schools and of the licensed
practical and licensed vocational nurses in the U.S.

WHAT DOES NAPNES DO?
NAPNES provides a broad range of educational and professional
services to individuals and to schools of practical
nursing. Among the services it provides are:
- promotion and protection LP/VN practice and education
- research and development of national PN education
standards
- research and development of national PN practice
standards
- research and development of nation PN post-licensure
certifications
- representing LP/VNs, PN Students, PN Schools and
PN Educators at national nursing policy meetings
- evaluation and certification of continuing education
programs developed by other agencies for credit toward
licensing (at a discount for agency members)
- publication of informational books and pamphlets
relating to practical nursing, pharmacology, education,
and nursing standards
- certification courses in pharmacology and long term
care (chronically ill patients)
- workshops and seminars on current nursing and medical
techniques
- continuing education programs/opportunities
- information to legislatures and the public on issues
affecting the education and practice of LP/VNs and
patient care as provided by them
- publication of The Journal of Practical Nursing,
a quarterly publication containing the latest developments
in medicine, clinical articles which focus on the
LPNs' role in health care and treatment, articles
which offer continuing education hours, and columns
which focus on issues pertaining to nurses.

WHO ARE NAPNES' MEMBERS?
NAPNES' membership consists of licensed practical nurses
(or vocational nurses, as they are called in Texas and
California), registered nurses, and caregivers in all
fields. General members include doctors, lawyers, and
laymen. Schools of practical nursing often encourage
their students to become student members to orient them
to the world of nursing. Consequently, a number of NAPNES
members are nursing students, as well.
