Mildred L. Bradshaw,
RN will be officially inducted into the Virginia
Nursing Hall of Fame. She served two terms as President
of NAPNES in the early 1950s.
She founded the first school of practical nursing
in Norfolk, Virginia in 1946 - the Norfolk City
Schools and Leigh Memorial Hospital School of Practical
Nursing. That school had the distinction of being
the first to be accredited by NAPNES. In addition,
Mrs. Bradshaw published the first national magazine
for LPNs Practical Nurses Digest from 1954 until
1967. Ms. Bradshaw was also the former president
of the Virginia Nurses Association and the 1962
recipient of the VNA's Nancy Vance Award for her
sustained and selfless commitment to nursing in
Virginia.
In October, the "virtual" Virginia Nursing
Hall of Fame will be updated to reflect her induction
along with four other distinguished Virginia nurses.
