President's Message

As I write this message the leaves are falling, there is a nip in the air and the NAPNES year is starting to wind down. It is my Presidential privilege to slow down a bit and take time to thank all the members and supporters of NAPNES. Our organization celebrates its 65th year in 2006. NAPNES has survived over six decades because of all the wonderful people who support the concept of changing a layman into a competent bedside nurse in a year. There are close to one million LP/VNs in this country and each day, each evening, and each night the care and quality bedside nursing they deliver is commendable. Full message here

OP-ED

"It's Time To Unite" explores the importance of nurses at all levels working together, to become active members of their professional association, and to end the divisiveness that exists in nursing.  At the end of the article you are invited to complete an online survey to tell us your thoughts on the subject.  We plan to share the results of the survey with all major nursing agencies and a variety of nursing websites, and journals.

NCSBN
Annual Conference

An important issue to all licensed nurses is the work of the National Council of State Boards of Nursing (NCSBN).  At their annual convention they covered several issues of concern to LP/VNs including:

  • Scope of practice issues for LP/VNs
  • Criminal background checks for all nurses
  • Delegation

And much more.  Be sure to check the NAPNES site in the coming weeks for important information from this meeting and potential calls for action.
